Idaho Backflow Prevention For Home Sprinkler Systems

Backflow, a reversal in the flow of water in a plumbing system, is a fairly common problem caused by back pressure. Backflow prevention devices must be installed on sprinkler systems using potable water. Backflow prevention devices prevent contamination of drinking water from pesticides, sewage and other hazardous materials.

Since backflow can contaminate both your water supply and the main water line, most homeowners and businesses are required to have a backflow prevention system, or an RPZ (reduced pressure zone) assembly. Federal regulations also require backflow assemblies for a variety of equipment that use water, such as refrigerators, ice boxes and water fountains.

At Advanced Plumbing and Mechanical of South East Idaho, we are dedicated to protecting your water supply with backflow and RPZ (reduced pressure zone) assemblies. With a staff of highly trained and experienced assembly evaluators and state-of-the-art equipment, we have the tools to provide you with complete protection against water system contamination.  We can test for Backflow issues, and take necessary steps to stop Backflow or even prevent it from ever occurring.
So whether your backflow needs are residential or commercial, we can help. For more information or to receive a free estimate, please contact us at Advanced Plumbing today!

Why Intermountain Water?

Water in the Intermountain West is 3 - 5 times harder than the national average. This can pose serious problems for water systems that are mass-produced for the lowest national averages.

Hard water can coat your family, your home and your appliances with thousands of pounds of inorganic mineral rock-scale each and every year.  Hard water slowly destroys everything it touches. Left untreated, hard water costs you money, ruins your lifestyle and can even lower the value of your home.

Intermountain Water

The Home Empowered Water system is designed to address hardness, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, chlorine tastes & odors in microbiologically safe water.

There are many variables that can negatively affect the efficiency, performance and reliability of a water conditioning system, including:

High Water Hardness: The harder your water is the larger a system must be to remove contaminants effectively. However, if the system is too large it will waste water and salt while potentially allowing your system to be contaminated with bacteria.

High Water Pressure
: Municipalities in the region could never have foreseen the massive population influx that has occurred. Cities are now forced to increase net pressures in piping distribution systems to push as much water as they can to new housing developments. These high pressures can raise attrition rates and cause premature failure in equipment.

Low Water Temperature: Although cold water tastes good, it is not good at all for water softening, conditioning or filtration equipment. Cold water has been proven to reduce system operating capacities by as much as 60%. Undersized systems will have a much greater chance of failing when the winter influent water is as cold as it is here.

Chlorine & Chloramine: All ion-exchange based water softening, conditioning and filtration systems can degrade at a minimum average rate of 5% - 10% per year (attrition) due to chlorine alone. Intermountain Water’s proprietary Structured Matrix media has a much slower chlorine attrition rate than traditional softening resins.

Iron & Heavy Metals: Resin attrition is further exacerbated by factors such as high water consumption, inadequate regenerations, elevated chlorine levels, iron & heavy metals in water. Even after leaving the city plant meeting or exceeding EPA minimum standards, your water can absorb and collect contaminants such as copper, zinc, lead, rust, manganese and a host of others before it even reaches your home. These are obviously potentially harmful to humans, but even more dangerous to your water equipment unless it is specifically designed to address these threats.

Heterotrophic Plate Count Bacteria (HPC’s): Your city produces water that is free of bacteria and safe to consume. However, HPC’s can exist in piping, water meters, fittings and regulating valves. These HPC’s are benign but can be the growth medium for potentially pathogenic bacteria. HPC’s can grow and colonize in a water system in as little as 4 days, even with chlorine or chloramine in the water. If your water system is not specifically sized & designed to address HPC growth issues, then your system could be a ticking bacterial time-bomb. Intermountain systems are specifically designed to use Pur-Gard or Pur-Gard Plus as well as regenerating appropriately to mitigate this risk.

Sewer Line Repair & Replacement

Free Sewer Line InspectionOur technicians are equipped with the most sophisticated equipment available to service all of your sewer repair or replacement – without destroying your yard.

One of the most common causes of sewer line back-ups, cracked lines and drainage problems is root infiltration. Roots from trees and larger shrubs enter the sewer line from a joint; they grow and expand to fill up the pipe with a hair-like root mass. The masses quickly become clogged with toilet paper, debris and grease coming from the home to the main sewer line. As the roots continue to grow, they put pressure on the pipe and it will eventually crack.

Diagnosing these sewer line problems can be difficult; often, it’s just guesswork. Repairing and replacing usually means tearing up your yard and property – a labor-intensive and expensive nightmare, as well as an eyesore. But not with Advanced Plumbing & Mechanical!

REPAIR Your Sewer Pipe If:

  • Is reasonably accessible
  • Is sized properly for the occupants of the home
  • Has a reasonable life expectancy for the cost of the repair

REPLACE Your Sewer Pipe If:

  • It is Orangeburg Pipe
  • Is undersized for the occupants living in the home
  • Is bellied or collapsed
  • Is deformed or deteriorated
  • Is beyond the life span of the existing pipe
  • You desire a worry free solution to your sewer issue

Consider TRENCHLESS Pipe Bursting

If conditions are right you can avoid disruption of landscaping and structures with trenchless repair to your existing sewer line piping.

The advantages of trenchless sewer line replacement are obvious. First and foremost, it's quicker and less expensive. Using traditional dig and back-fill methods, it usually takes two days to replace a sewer line. Plus there is the added expense of replanting the yard, replacing any sections of fence, repairing driveways or sidewalks, etc.

With the trenchless system, none of these issues apply. Because the replacement process requires only two access holes to be dug, the crew can be in and out usually in about eight hours, and your lawn remains intact; no replanting expense. The patio, driveway, sidewalks, fence, cable and gas lines, etc. remain unscathed. The cost is comparable if not less than the cost of traditional sewer line replacements.

Trenchless - It's a worry-free solution for your sewer issue.

Tankless Water Heaters

Conventional water heaters are by far the most common type of water heater in the U.S. today. They range in size from 20 to 80 gallons (or larger) and are fueled by electricity, natural gas, propane, or oil. Called "storage" units, these water heaters transfer heat from a burner or coil to water in an insulated tank.  The down side to a conventional water heater is that energy is consumed even when no hot water is being used.

Tankless water heaters do not contain a storage tank like conventional water heaters. A gas burner or electric element heats the water only when there is a demand for hot water.

There are many things to consider when choosing conventional vs. tankless water heating systems.  Advanced Plumbing & Mechanical can guide you through your options and get the right system for home that will give years of service and efficient performance.
