The Problem with Dripping Faucets and Other "Small" Leaks
Plumbing problems of the smaller variety can be difficult to detect without the use of professional-grade equipment and experience. In fact, they almost always are hard to detect, without the assistance of a professional Idaho Falls, ID plumber.
Most of your plumbing system, after all, is hidden from view. And the problems that affect it are typically subtle to begin with. Dripping faucets and other small leaks—like pinhole leaks—are examples of such problems.
Schedule Plumbing Maintenance
Since plumbing problems aren’t always obvious and sometimes can cause a great deal of damage before you even know they exist, we recommend that you schedule preventive plumbing maintenance annually.
However, it’s also important that you know the warning signs that something is wrong with your plumbing system. While a drippy faucet can be pretty noticeable, especially if it’s noisy, a pinhole leak is a fairly common, but hidden, plumbing issue. As a pinhole leak begins to grow in size, you could find yourself with a big problem, very quickly.
So, what are those warning signs?
A Drop in Water Pressure
A decline in water pressure is never a good thing for your plumbing system. While it’s going to take more than a single pinhole leak to cause this problem, it’s worth taking note that whatever causes the leak to form in the first place can be affecting other parts of your pipes, or might have grown in size—both of which can lead to a loss of water pressure.
A slow, gradual, loss of water pressure is a good indicator that a leak is growing in size. It may also be caused by a blockage that’s closing in on the center of a pipe within your plumbing system. We suggest that you call in a pro as soon as you notice this plumbing symptom.
A Running Water Meter
This is the best way for you to determine on your own if a leak is occurring on your property. Turn off all your plumbing appliances within the home and property, and then check the water meter. If it’s still running, then water is likely still leaving your system somewhere, like through a pinhole leak.
We hope, for your sake, you don’t have to deal with this problem. Unfortunately though, if that’s what you’re facing, then you have a plumbing problem that’s been progressing over time. Many plumbing problems only become noticeable once they’ve gotten far enough along to start inflicting property damage.
Pinhole leaks are too often only found after they’ve rotted out the surrounding area with subsequent water damage. If you’ve noticed any indications of water damage on your walls or ceiling, then we encourage you to call in a pro to have a look at the problem ASAP. The longer you wait, the worst the problem can grow.
With any plumbing problem, it’s better to be safe than sorry. That means if you suspect something is amiss, call a plumber you can trust. Whether it’s leak detection services or video pipe inspection, we have the experience you need to get your system back to pristine condition.
