Roots and Drains: What You Need to Know

Drain and Sewer

When something goes wrong with your sewer line, it’s not something you can address on your own. You rely on experts to tell you what’s wrong with the sewer lines underneath your property, and it may be surprising to hear that tree roots have infiltrated your drains! But this issue is far more common than you may think. Find out more below!

Why tree roots target your drains

Roots grow naturally towards any source of water they can find. They are more likely to grow towards your drains if they have minor leaks or if the lining is deteriorating. In any case, the roots begin to wrap around the pipeline, and they can eventually penetrate the drains and cause leaking or major blockage.

Getting tree roots out

When you experience backup in the drains in your home, a technician can look into the drains using high quality video camera drain snakes. If they find that tree roots are the problem, they may attempt to solve the problem in one of several ways. In some cases, you might have to replace severely deteriorating pipes. But a technician may be able to break up the roots using a drain snake with a special attachment. They may even use chemicals to kill off the roots, if necessary.

Using trenchless technology to replace or repair pipes

If tree roots have done some damage to your piping, you might have to replace the pipes. But there is an easier way to do this that does not involve ripping out the old piping. Trenchless technology involves digging only one or two holes into the ground in order to insert hydraulic equipment that pulls a new durable pipe lining through the old pipe. Call your local plumbers and make sure they offer this minimally invasive service before scheduling service for your sewer line.

Call the Pocatello drain and sewer experts at Advanced Home Services to get tree roots out of your drain and sewer line. We are the standard when it comes to providing great service.
