7 Tips for a Happy Halloween!

We may be a home services company, but we are one that truly cares about our customers and their safety. Halloween is fast approaching—a very fun and festive time of year filled with candy, pumpkin carving, and parties to attend.

However, it’s important to remember that Halloween can also present some hidden dangers, especially when kids are involved. So this season, we’d like to share some tips to keep your kids’ trick-or-treating as minimally hazardous as possible. Keep reading for 7 ways to do so!

1. Plan Your Path

If you aren’t familiar with your neighborhood—for example, if you’ve just recently moved in—it’s a good idea to explore the area and make sure you’re familiar with it. Stick to routes that you and your child are familiar with and are well lit to avoid getting lost.

2. Stay Warm

If our temperatures keep trending downward the way they usually do this time of year, we can expect nighttime temperatures to dip to the low 30’s when you’ll be out trick-or-treating. That being said, be sure your child’s costume is warm enough to withstand the night, and that their shoes are comfy and warm (and water resistant) as well.

3. Carry a Flashlight!

You can’t always rely on your trick-or-treating path being well lit. Equip your kids with flashlights so that they can see their way. It’s also not a bad idea to put reflective tape on their costumes so that cars don’t miss them.

4. Check Costume Length

Costumes that drag present a considerable danger for children. Not only is it easier to trip in this type of costume, you also potentially have candles within Jack O’ Lanterns to contend with.

5. Ensure Masks Are Not Restrictive

Some masks can make it hard for a child to breathe or even see. It may be a better choice to skip the mask and use non-toxic makeup instead—particularly for younger children.

6. Take Care with Props and Homemade Components

If your child’s costume comes with a prop, or if you are making their costume on your own, make sure that the components of those props or costumes aren’t able to cause an injury to your child or friend they may be trick-or-treating with.

7. Check Your Child’s Candy

When you sort through your child’s candy at night, make sure to throw away any that is not in its original wrapper or looks like it’s been opened. While we of course want to trust that nothing bad will ever happen trick-or-treating, the fact is that sometimes unfortunate events do occur. The best thing you can do is stay prepared and vigilant, and ensure that you and your child have a happy Halloween!

Called Advanced Home Services to schedule a routine furnace cleaning. Stewart did a great job and even tagged all our gas and water line so we would know which lines to shut off in case of an emergency. He was very friendly and helpful. I will be calling these guys for any future plumbing and heating issues that may pop up.

When Robert C came for a routine check found a leak under my kitchen sink. He discovered the main source of the problem and had the time to fix it right away before it became worse. He did a fantastic job and went above and beyond what was required. He was very friendly and so helpful and did a fantastic job.
